'Little Things'

+Jeffrey Brown

Over the last few months we’ve been working for seminal Chicago cartoonist Jeffrey Brown, author of Clumsy, unlikely. We've been animating Jeff’s drawings for a short promo to promote his new book ‘Little Things’. The promo was animated in flash for Jeff's website and was great fun. Ginny met Jeff in comic book store Gosh in London last year and got talking about animation.

The music was created by Bristol band Mewgatz. Jeff also created the artwork for their debut album, including a 16 page album comic book.

Channel4 + UK Film Council: Perhaps?

+Perhaps God is Angry
Early in the year we were lucky enough to be short listed by both Channel4 and the UK Film Council for short film funding for our film ‘Perhaps God is Angry’. Perhaps he was on those days, as sadly we didn’t win either of our pitches, but throughly enjoyed the odd experience!

Thanks to Sam Bourner for shaping our scribbles into a script.

Here's a glimpse of our 'storyboard' doodles. The film is based on an 30second ident that i started which quickly grew wildly out of control into a 3 min film, this seems to happen quite alot.

The Mystery Of Pig City!

+NYICFF 08

Ginny and I have been off to New York for a few days as my graduation film; The Mystery Of Pig City’ was selected to be apart of the International Children’s Film Festival.

The film played to an excited (perhaps too excited) young audience and was followed by an embarrassing Q&A featuring questions about ‘colours, what sausages are really made off and suggestions for ideas that were better’. An amazing festival, and New York was an amazing city.

Congratulations to Sarah Cox who's film Don’t let it all Unravel won the Environmental Award and to Felix Massie who's great film 'Keith Reynolds can't make it tonight' also won the 12-18 award.

Thanks to Paul Brewster and the ICFF volunteers for making the trip so memorable.

Last night was the finale for the E4 estings competition! E4 through a trendy party at the Design Museum on the South Bank, complete with purple lighting and free drinks. They screened the top 25 stings and announced the winner as voted for my the public through their web site. Sadly we didn’t win but the overall winner was great!

E4 had made postcards to promote the event! It was great to meet the other finalists, it was an eclectic bunch! Thanks to Jamie and his team for a great night.

Design Week !

+The Mystery Of Pig City!

Design Week
FEB 28 2008
Volume 23 | Number 9

I was recently interviewed for Design week for their article: Shouting for shorts: spotting the animation talent. You can read my bizzare answers on page 16 of the weekly magazine, fantastically they featured two images, one a rough colour board for Pig City and the other a piece of concept art.

The article featuring Aardman’s Luis Cook, Peter Baynton and Dimitar Mitovski interviews artists and discusses the rise of AV-Festivals and the popularity of short films on the internet.

You can also read the article online here.

+e4 esting

Our E4 esting was apart of this years Characters in Motion: Pictoplasma Festival in Berlin! Ginny and I traveled to Berlin to watch it on the Big screen and were throughly embarrassed/delighted to be asked up with the other entrees to talk about the short.

PIXEL FILM

+ (?}

We’ve just completed our first Super Short Film entitled: PIXEL FILM: {?). The film was drawn in a 50x50 Pixel square frame by frame and the 8-Bit sound track was created using ‘Magical 8Bit’ a plug in for Garage Band.

The title’s (?} is our version of an ascii art speech bubble with a question mark, which kind of sums the film up! Were hoping to make more of these in the future as it was great fun designing and animating to such an odd limitation.

Monster Burp!

Lazy Oaf’s: Monster Burp exhibition

Lazy Oaf’s: Monster Burp exhibition features the likes of talented artist including peskimo, Jon burgerman and ourselves! Ginny and I created original ‘paintings’ for the Exhibition which is in Kingly Court in London. Garth attempted to doodle and whitewash onto un-dyed canvas and Ginny created a day-glow dinosaur who perfectly filled his boxy canvas.

Thank you to Jemma for letting us join in the fun and be in the presence of such good company.

CN drawings!

+ Robot Boy

Here are a few drawings from my interview ‘storyboard’ that I completed for Cartoon Network London way back in December 2006. The show is Robot Boy developed by Alphanim in Paris for Cartoon Network. The character designs were great fun to draw and it was a real challenge to board part of an episode in an existing style.

Oodles of doodles!

+Aardman Talent Showcase

I was lucky enough to have some of my illustrations feature in the 'new talent' exhibition at Aardman's studio in Bristol. Sadly I couldn’t make it down on the night but posted down a selection of postcards and printouts.
